They Say One - Carrot Cake

Chomp Chomp

Carrot Cake

If you're pregnant (or just bloody greedy) and having cravings for good-ass food, come on down to Serangoon Garden! It's filled with cheap, good food - the 2 most important things for Singaporeans. It's also my hood, which Jane's jealous of. Aren't you, Jane? We've got good food and no gang fights :)

Once you've ploughed through the crowd of vultures waiting rudely for seats and finally manage to get one yourself, the first dish you MUST order is the Carrot Cake (Chai Tao Kueh). It's the first stall on the right so it's impossible to miss. For real, it's worth the bruises and scars from battling it out with other people for a place to sit. They're probably there for the Carrot Cake too.

We went down last night and had ourselves a $5 plate of black carrot cake ($3 for small and $5 for large). Jane likes it a little charred, which I must say, accentuates the flavor quite a bit. Add a bit of chili and BAM! you have yourself a brand new addiction...

The portions are well worth the price, especially if you order the large plate. The uncle cooking it adds in so many prawns that you kinda wonder whether he's got his own damn prawn farm. I personally guarantee satisfaction. If you don't get any, just look for Jane.

So just remember, bring an umbrella when you're heading down to Chomp Chomp. You'll need a weapon when it comes to looking for seats. The things people do for good food... I'm just glad we made it out alive.
