They Say One - Ramen

Ishi Mura Japanese Food Street
Ramen
#03-50 Northpoint, Yishun

So in view of the mad ass floods here in Singapore, we thought of going for something hot and soupy. You'll be surprised where we found this place.

It's none other than Northpoint, Yishun! I know, right? Who in their right minds would think of Yishun when it comes to spankin' good food! Well, apparently there are some joints there that don't serve diarrhea-inducing food whose appearance reminds you of something from the Michael Jackson music video, Thriller. Okay fine, the main reason Yishun is getting so much flak is cos Jane lives there (yeah, e-mail me for her exact address. I'll provide the eggs.)
Nuff said, let's get down and dirty with the ramen. Once you get past their quaint and slightly comical costumes, you'll find the waitstaff impossibly friendly. All of them are dressed the same, so it might be difficult telling the men from well, the non-men :) The ramen stall is at the corner, and if you're lucky, there won't be a queue. Best to go during off-peak hours. So skip school or work and have a fantastic meal! Trust me, it's worth getting fired for.
Let's start with the preparation. They use machines specially imported from Japan (cos we all know imported stuff is better, even if it isn't) to cook and cut the noodles, so you get a silky smooth consistency that will make you hate your own mother's cooking. No really, you will.
Next, we get to the Char Siew. Althought they're thinly sliced (again by those magical Japanese machines), they're so well-marinated that you taste every fatty bit of what was once a cute little piglet named Percy.
Lastly, the soup. I asked if they could bottle it for me so I could carry it around wherever I went. They just looked at me funny and cussed something in Japanese. I don't think it was anything pleasant. Don't waste your time with anywhere else, even if you don't like egg, or char siew, or noodles, order this dish for the soup. It's a bloody waste they're only located in Yishun.
So Jane, I'll give it to you. You've got food in Yishun that will actually attract me back. I just hope they've got good breakfast for when we work late into the night :) Heh.

  1. There's another two stores at PoMo (Level 3) and at City Square Mall (Level 5).
